"The Mr. Jones is the result of years of trying to come up with a pattern to match not only the profile of a large, skating adult cranefly, but to develop a fly that would skate and dance the way the naturals do.

Like so many good flies, this one combines parts from a couple previous patterns, notable my Lucky B and the infamous Screaming Banshee.

The result is a fly that not only looks good, but fishes even better. With a uniquely formed extended body that will fold up when a fish eats it and a forward facing moose hair wing, the Mr. Jones is honestly one of the most fun flies I have ever fished.

Skated down and across or even stripped like a streamer on top just straight off the bank, the visual follows and attacks this fly prompts are second to none."

Barbed hooks, nail knot abdomen?

Charlie's recent article and video for this fly calls for a barbless hook and a needle wrapped abdomen. I had pinch the barbs on the copies I bought. That, and the fly tier seems to have found an easier way to attach the extended body. I'm eager to tie a few and see how it goes. I'm also waiting for runoff to, well, runoff.

Crane fly

They skate on top of water like crazy. Caught a bunch of browns with explosive takes first time out with them. They are hard to see in riffles I feel they fish better in the tail end of riffle sections and calmer pool and eddy areas. But they work for sure and are definitely attention getters!
